Protestant theologian; b. at Friesack (Mark Brandenburg), Sept. 24, 1828; studied at Berlin, 1847-51; became privat-docent there, 1853; profe or extraordinary, 1856; and ordinary profe or, 1864, at Breslau. He has written Das Deuteromium erklart, Berlin, 1859; Die Schbpfungsgeschichte nach Nat urw is sens chaft und Bibel, Gotha, 1865; and the comments on Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther, in Lange's Commentary, Bielefeld, 1875.
