CLASSIFICATION

In the Fine Arts, an arrangement by which objects of the fine arts are distributed in cla es; as, for instance, in galleries of paintings, the works should be arranged in schools, each school being subject to a chronological order of the masters. In Numismatology, the coins should be arranged by countries, and these again in chronological order of the monarchs; and the like of other branches of the arts. Cla ification, in Natural History, denotes the arrangement or a ortment of various objectj^into those several cla es denoted by appellatives which are called genera and species.
