Cognation

(kõg-nā'shun.) (From L. cognatio, relationship by birth.] (Civ. Law.) Natural relationship, or that line of consanguinity which is derived through either males or females,descended from the same father; in opposition to ag nation, or that which is derived through males only. [s. 203]
