A genus of plants of the Ranunculaceae, tribe Helleboreae. 2. The drug aconite, in the U. S. Ph., the tu- ACRATIA berous root of A. napellus. Caution: Tincture of a con it in now represents^ but 10 the per U. cent, of the rhizome, whereas35 "that of S. Ph., 1890, represented per cent, and Fleming's tincture of aconite is even stronger and should not be used. The root of Aconitum napellus, not indigenous to the United States, occasionally escaped from gardens, somewhat resembles that of horse-radish. Poisoning consists in respiratory and cardiac depre ion. The tincture (2-10 m) and fluid extract (l/2- 1 m) are official in the 19 10 U. S. Ph. [For deriv. see aconite.]
