University Observatory. Long. from Green wich Oh. 17m. 56.35s. E., lat. 52° 9′ 20′′ N. Founded 1632, it is the oldest existing observatory in Europe. A new building was erected 1858-60 and provided with a 7-in. refractor by. Merz, and a meridian circle by Pistor & Martins, 6.3 in. IMG:content-1627.png:[blocks in formation] Ancient Astronomical Instruments at Peking. new instruments by the Jesuit mi ionaries 1673. It does not appear that anything more modern exists there to-day.
