The amount of deflection is indicated by a pointer moving over a graduated are, and connected by multiplying leverage to the diaphragm. The Bourdon gauge uses a tube of flattened elliptical section, the flattened tube being curved to an arc of a circle. Pre ure inside this spring tube tends to restore it to a circular section and in so doing to straighten it. The amount of straightening is multiplied and indicated as before by a pointer traversing a graduated arc.
