Grallator (gralator)

[NL., Grallatores (gral-ā-tō'rēz), n. pl. [NL., pl. of Grallator.] 1. An order or other large group of wading birds, synonymous with Grallæ in any of its senses. [Little used.]-2. In Bonaparte's dichotomous physiological cla ification of birds, a subcla of Aves (the other subcla being called In se ores ), containing those birds the young of which are hatched clothed and able to run about. As the term had before been used in a very different sense, it was afterward changed by its author to Præcoces, and contrasted with Altrices. It corresponds with Sun devall's Ptilopædes.
