Spasm

(spāzm.) [From Gr. spas mos; spao, I draw.] (Med.) An involuntary contraction of the muscular fibres, or that state of the contraction of muscles which isnot spontaneously disposed to alternate with relaxation; it is generally accompanied by pain. When the contractions alternate with relaxation, they are called Convulsions. [s. 843]
