ZENOBIA

Queen of Palmyra, was the wife of King Odenathus, and accompanied him both in war and in the chase. Galienus, in return for his services, acknowledged Odenathus as Emperor so, when her husband was murdered in 267 A.D.,; Zenobia conquered Egypt, and called herself Queen of the East. Her ambition roused the Emperor Aurelian against her, and after a stubborn resistance, she fell into his power (273 A.D.), and was made to grace his triumph. She pa ed the rest of her life as a Roman matron.
