(o’-var-e) [ovarium, an egg-holder, from ovum, egg]. One of a pair of glandular organs giving rise to ova. It consists of a fibrous framework or stroma, in which are imbedded the Graafian follicles, and is surrounded bya serous covering derived from the peritoneum. 470
