Battle-axe

a heavy, dale axe, usually with an iron handle and a broad steel head, much used in warfare by the ancient Keltic and Norse peoples, and in medizval times, particularly in sorties, both by cavalry and foot-soldiers. That used by the latter was the heaviest, and was grasped by both hands.
