[Eng. monk; -hood.] The character or condition of a monk. *monk-ing, a. [Eng. monk-; -ing.] Monkish. "Monasteries and other monking receptacles." - Cole ridge. (Ann andale.) size; villiform teeth on palatine bone, none on vomer. Scales very large, bony, forming a rigid carapace. Ventrals reduced to a single strong spine, and a few rudimentary rays. One species known, Monocentris japonicus , from the seas off Japan and the Mauritius. It is not common, nor does it attain any size. ( Günther .)
