Suffocation

(suf-fo-ka's hun.) [From L. suffoco, to choke.] (Med.) The act of choking or producing death by the interruption of the breath. The three ordinary ways in which S. may be effected are hanging, drowning, and the respiration of fixed air, or carbonic acid gas. [s. 864]
