Same as sub peritoneal a. retro pharyngeal a., an absce between the posterior wall of the pharynx and the vertebral column. scrofulous a., strumous a., one due to the tubercle bacillus. serous a. Same as periostitis album i no sac. shirt-stud a., a superficial absce connected with a deeper one by a pa age. stercoraceous a., stercoral a., an absce containing feces. sterile a., an absce which contains no microérganisms. stitch a., one which develops at or near a stitch or suture. sub aponeurotic a., an absce bencath an aponcurosis or fascia. sub diaphragmatic a., an absce beneath the diaphragm. sub mammary a., an absce beneath the mammary gland. sub peritoneal a., an abscc between the parietal peritoneum and the abdominal wall. subphrenic a, an absce beneath the diaphragm. supra hepatic a., an absce situated in the suspensory ligament between the liver and the diaphragm. thecal a., an absce in the sheath of a tendon. traumatic a., an absce provoked by injury. tropical a., an absce of the liver due to long residence in a tropical climate. tympanitic a., an absce that contains gas. tympano cervical a., an absce arising in the tympanum and extending to the neck. ur: &., an absce caused by extravasation of urine. urinous a., one which contains pus mixed with urine. verminous a., one which contains insect larve or other animal parasites. von Bezold’s a., absce resulting from a mastoiditis by perforation of the mastoid wall, with extension into the digastric fo a, and thence to the ti ues of the lateral aspect of the neck. wandering a., one that burrows in the ti ues and finally points at a considerable distance from the place where it started. absce -root. The root of the Greek valerian, Polemo'nium rep/tans: stimulant, alterative, and expectorant. Dose of fluidextract, 4-2 dr. (1.85— 7.4 C.C.). absci a (ab-sis’ah), pl. absci e (L., from ab away + scin’dere to cut]. Any one of a set of transverse lines cutting vertical ones, to show in a diagram the relations of a series of parts. absci ion (ab-sish’un) [L. ab from - scin’dere to cut]. Removal by cutting. corneal a., excision of the prominence of the cornea in staphyloma. absconsio (ab-skon’se-o), pl. absconsio’nes [L.]. A diseased condition, like alcoholism, due to continued use of absinthe. absinthium (ab-sin’the-um) [L.; Gr. ἀψένθιον). Wormwood: the leaves and tops of Artemisia abs in’thium. It is a gastric tonic, cardiac stimulant, and anthelmintic. Dose of infusion, 4-1 fluid ounce (15-30 c.c.). ofl of a., the volatile oil of wormwood, or Artemis’ia abs in’ thium. absinthol (ab-sin’thol) [L. abs in’thium wormwood + o'leum oil]. A liquid camphor, C,oH,,O, from oil of wormwood. absolute (ab’so-lat) [L. absolu’tus, from absol’vere to set loose]. Free from limitations; unlimited; uncombined. a. alcohol, etc. Sce alcohol, etc. absorbefacient (ab-sor-be-fa’shent) [L. absorbe're to absorb + fa’cere to make]. 1.
