2 city of Michigan, the county Seat of Gogebic co. It is on the Chicago, Northwestern and other important railroads, and is 40 miles east of Ashland, Wis. The city is the center of an important fron mining district and has become an important industrial community in recent years by reason of its mining and manufacturing and its trade relations with the surrounding country. Its public buildings include a high school and a court house. Pop. 1920, 5,482.
