Nineveh

Capital of the A yrian monarchy; on the Tigris. It was an important city as early as 1800 B.C. Sargon, 722-705, did much to adorn it. Sennacherib, his son, 705-681, raised it to the highest pitch of splendor. Its most famous works of art were executed under A urban i pal (Sardana pal us)
