Chaldæa

or CHALDEA, (kal-deah.) (Anc. Geog.) In its rightful sense, the extreme S. part of old Babylonia; but, according to the later cla ical authorities, the term was applied to the whole of that country lying between the rivers Euphrates and Tigris. Its people are supposed to be perpetuated in the inhabitants of modern Turkestan. The name of Chaldeans was also applied to the entire cla of learned men belonging to Babylon. [s. 163]
