A catfish of the genus Noturus, as N. flavus, common in many parts of the United States. N. flavus is one of the largest, sometimes exceeding a foot in length. N. in sign is is an Stone cat (Noturus flavus). other, nearly as large, found in the Middle and Southern States. There are several more, a few inches long, all of fresh waters of the same country.
