Transparency

(-paren-se.) [From L. trans, and pareo, to appear.] (Chem.) That property of a body which allows rays of light to pa through it. It is the opposite to opacity, and like this term is sometimes extended to the whole spectrum. Thus we speak of a solution of iodine in bisulphide of carbon as being transparent to hent, and of rock-crystal as being transparent to the actinic rays. Transpadane'. See CISPADANE. [s. 904]
