[L., sick.] Same as ægrot at. Egeria (e-je'ri-ä), n. [NL., named after Æge ria, or Egeria, a prophetic nymph or Camena celebrated in Roman legend, instructre of Numa.] In entom.: (a) The typical genus of the family Ægeriida, order Lepidoptera. It consists of brightly colored moths with the wings wholly or in part transparent. The larvæ are endophytous, boring into the stems and trunks of shrubs and trees, and embrace some of the most destructive enemies to cultivated fruit trees. See borer and maple - borer. Also sometimes called Sesia. (b) A genus of Diptera founded by Robineau-Desvoidy. Also spelled Egeria. ægerian (ē-jē'ri-an), a. Of or belonging to the Ægeriida. Also spelled egerian.
