Oltramare, Marc Jean Hugues

Swi Protestant theologian; b. at Geneva, Dec. 27, 1813; studied arts and theology at Geneva; was ordained 1838; continued his studies at Tiibingen and Berlin, 1841-42; returned home; was a city pastor, 1845-54. Since 1854 he has been profe or of New-Testament exegesis in the university. He was a member of the National Consistory, 1851- 59; and, under commi ion of the Venerable Company of Pastors, prepared a new French version of the New Testament, which appeared, Geneva, 1872 (many subsequent editions). He is the author of Comment a ire sur VEpitre aux Romains, Geneva, 1843, 2d ed. 1881-82; Instruction e'vangelique sur trois questions: Qui est Jesus Christ? Qu'est-il venu faire? Quefaire pour etre sauve? 1845; Cate'chis me a I'usage des Chretiens reformed, 1859, 4th ed. 1877; Le Salut, les Sacrements (in Conference ur les principes de lafoi reforme'e, 1853-54, 2 vols.); Calvin (in Calvin: cinq discours, 1864); and sermons, etc.
