Naville, Jules Ernst

Swi religious philosopher; b. at Chancy, near Geneva, Dee. 13, 1816; studied at the University of Geneva; became licentiate in theology, and was ordained in 1839; was profe or of philosophy in the university, 1844; removed (1846) in consequence of the Genevan revolution, and has since held no official position, except during 1860-61 when he was profe or of apologetics in the theological faculty; but he lectures in the department of letters, and is an admired preacher. He has written many books (see Lichtenberger, vol. xiii., pp. 146, 147).
