One of numerous different dipterous insects, as of the genus Conops, which resemble a sphex in some respects. sphiggure (sfig'ur), See sphingure. sphincter (sfingk'ter), n. [NL., L. sphincter, the pupil smaller. Also called sphincter pupillæ and undeterrideti, sphincter pylorier Sphincter sphincter ani (see above). Sphincter vag inæ, an elliptical muscle surrounding the orifice of the vagina, corresponding to the bulb oca ver nos us of the male. Also called constrictor vagina. Sphincter vesice, the unstriped involuntary muscular around the neck of urinary - Sphincter vesicæ extern us, the partly plain partly striated muscular fibers which surround the prostatic part of the urethra. Also called sphincter prostatic us and sphincter of Henle. sphincteral (sfingk'ter-al), a. [ -al.] Same as sphincterial .
