PENTECOST

(From Πεντηκοστὸς , the fiftieth .) A solemn festival of the Jews, so called because it was celebrated fifty days after the feast of the Pa over. (Lev. xxiii. 15, 16.) It corresponds with the Christian Whit sun tide, which is sometimes called by the same name.
