(vair'doon,) a fort if. and manuf. town of France, dept. Meuse, 28 m. N. of Bar-le-Duc. It was stormed and occupied by the Pru ians in 1792, and again in 1871. Pop. 12,928. Vergennes', in Vermont, a city and port of Add is on co., on Otter Creek, 21 m. S. by E. of Burlington. AU. S. arsenal is established here, and this place served as a naval rendezvous during the operations on Lake Cham plain, in the war of 1812. Pop. 1,570. [s. 934]
