ABDUL MASIH (Servant of Christ) The new name which was adopted by Sheikh Saleh, converted through the influence of Henry Martyn: and soon afterward admitted to the Church at Calcutta. He was born at Delhi, was Persian and Arabic Moonshi of Luoknow, then became keeper of the King of Oudh’s jewels and was for years a most zealous Mu ulman. Just after he had been horrified by the atrocities of his coreligionists in the Rajput State of Jodhpur, he became deeply impre ed by Martyn’s preaching, and accepted Christ as his Savior. The in 1809; Sheikh Saleh’s conversion caused great excitement among his former a ociates and he became an able and influential minister of Jesus Christ. He was the first native pastor under the Church Mi ionary Society in India. 19
