Canterbury

(kăn'tr-běr-re,) an ancient city, and the metropolitan see of England, co. Kent, 53 m. S.E. by E. of London. It is famous for its magnificent cathedral, built in 1184, and standing on the site of the first Christian church in Britain, founded by St. Augustine. Pop. 25,456. [s. 138]
