1378-1455. Italian goldsmith and sculptor, who effected a revolution in art by his bronze doors of the Florence Baptistery. Of these there are two pairs, the first dating 1403-25, the second 1425-52. The latter are the first IMG:content-0289.png:[graphic] Panel from the bronze doors of the Baptistery, Florence. wholly modern works in modern art. The former are also of epoch-making importance, and mark an entire break with the style of the 14th century and of Giotto. The doors are treated in relief panels, with designs in one case from the life of John the Baptist, ptist, the other, from the O. T.
