HEBE

One of the recently discovered small planets belonging to the group whose orbits lie between Mars and Jupiter. Hebe was discovered on the 1st of July 1847, by Hencke, of Drie en, the discoverer of Astrsea, while examining the stars in Bremiker's chart. It had then the appearance of a star of the ninth magnitude, but soon after became fainter, and appeared as one of the tenth. The new planet was named Hebe, with a cup for its symbol, by Profe or Gau . Its periodic time is about 1380 days. {Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, vol. viii.) See Planet. [s. 1390]
