PICARDS

The name of a fanatical and immoral sect of Christians who sprang up in Bohemia in the ITjlh century. They derived their name from Picard, a native of Flanders, who styled himself the New Adam, and attempted to revive the absurdities of the Adamites of the 2d century, in imitating the state of primeval innocence. They were completely annihilated by Zisca, the great general of the Hu ites, who, struck with their abominable practices, had marched against them. [s. 940]
