LENTICULAR

In Botany, a term invented bv Guettard to denote brown oval spots found upon the bark a'^xiany plants, especially willows, indicating the points from which roots will appear if the branch be placed in circumstances favourable to their production. They are, in fact, nothing but protuberances formed by the pre ure upon the epidermis of subjacent roots attempting to pierce through it. [s. 528]
