Xiphorhamphus (ziforamfus)

[NL. (Blyth, 1843), camel-wasp is X. alb i corn is. They are found commonly Xiphydriide (zif-i-drī'i-dē), n. pl. [NL., also Xiphydriadæ (Leach, 1819), Xiphydrida, Xyphy driites, etc.; stern Him a lay as. X. superciliaris, the only Xiphydria, now merged in Uroceridæ. is 7 inches long. The general color above is olivaceous brown; over the eye is a white streak, but most of the plumage is of sober shades of ashy and rufous. See Xi phorhynchus, 2. 2. A genus of fishes. Müller and Troschel, 1844. Xiphorhynchus (zif-ō-ring'kus), n. [NL. (Swains on, 1827, also Ziphorhynchus, 1837), shorter and le curved, and there is no such white spot under the eye as all the rest have. See cut under saber bill. 2. A different genus of birds, named by Blyth in 1842 in the form Xiphirhynchus, and changed by him in 1843 to Xiphorhamphus. 3. A genus of Dryophidæ, or wood-snakes: so called from the acute appendage of the snout. X. langaha is the langaha of Madagascar. (See cut under langaha.)
