colon

(ko’lon) [L.; Gr. κόλον, x@dov]. That part of the large intestine which extends from the cecum to the rectum. ascending c., the portion of the colon on the right side, going cephalad from the cecum. descending c., a part of the colon on the left side, between the transverse colon and the sigmoid flexure. giamt ¢., abnormally large size of the colon. iliac c., the part of the sigmoid flexure of the colon which is situated in the left iliac fo a. pelvic c., that part of the sigmoid flexure which is situated in the pelvis. sigmoid c., the sigmoid flexure of the colon. See under flexure. transverse c., that part which runs transversely acro the upper part of the abdomen from right to left.
