HACKETT, JAMES HENRY

(18001871), American actor, B. in New York, March 15, 1800; d. in Jamaica, Long Island, Dec. 28, 1871. He made I stage appearance in 1826 and soon became noted for playing Yankees and Westerners. In 1832 he first acted Falstaff, a part in which he was considered above all rivals in his day. He ‘played in England also with marked succe . During his management of various theatres he made a considerable fortune. Publications: ‘Notes and Comments on Shakespeare’, 1863.
