Estop ill a

[Sp.] A kind of mixed linen fabric. Estoppel, n. [See ESTOP.] ( Law.) An impediment or bar to a right of action, arising from a man's own act, or that of one to whom the party estopped is privy. As, if a party is bound by a particular name in an obligation, and afterwards sued by that name on the same obligation, he is estopped, i. e. forbidden in law to say in abatement that he is misnamed; as he cannot sav contrary to that which he has admitted by his own deed. All parties to a deed are estopped to say anything against what is contained in it; and privies are also bound.
