ROYAL ARCANUM

a fraternal and benefit society founded in Boston in 1877. Its chief purpose is to furnish fraternal insurance. Men of good moral character between the ages of 18 and 55 are eligible to membership. Benefit certificates for $1,000 to $3,000 are i ued to members. The governing body is the Supreme Council, consisting of its officers and representatives of Grand Councils. Local, or subordinate councils are under control of a Grand Council. Local councils collect insurance premiums, which are transferred to the Supreme Council, the guardian of the fund. Emblem: a crown within a circle surrounded by 10 Maltese cro es. Motto: ‘Virtue, Mercy, and Charity.’
