Conversion

In law, an unauthorized act which deprives another of his personal property permanently or for an indefinite time, such as the unlawful sale, destruction, withholding, or use of another's goods in hostility to his dominion as owner. The damages recoverable are generally the value of the property when converted; upon payment of the judgment for damages, the converter acquires title to the goods, which dates back to the time of conversion.
