[ trine, though not unknown in the early church, was first distinctly propounded in Spain near the end of the eighth century by Felix, bishop of Urgel, and Elipandus, archbishop of Toledo. It was opposed by Alcuin, and condemned by three councils, at Ratisbon in 792, at Frankfort in 794, and at Aix-la-Chapelle about 799. Also writ ten adoptianism.
