Fortified city of n. Italy, on two islands of the Mincio; founded by Etruscans; birthplace of Virgil; governed only enemies taken in war: women are excluded from the orgies. They acknowledge a good and an evil spirit. North of these are true cannibals, among whom Dr. Living stone found no trace of religious ideas. East of these tribes are the Waganda, forming a monarchy of 5,000,000 subjects. The men go entirely naked. Further north, among the Mountains of the Moon, is a tribe noted for the white complexion and beauty of its women.
