Of land; a conveyance as a security, with a condition that it shall be void on a certain contingency; if the mortgagee makes default, he still has an equity of redemption which can be cut off by foreclosure. 2. Of chattels; it is of the nature of a conditional sale, and generally regulated by State statutes.
