Pericardium

(per-e-kar-de-um.) (From Gr. peri, around, and kardia, the heart.] (Anat.) A membrano which surrounds the whole substance of the heart. It contains a fluid which prevents the surface of the heart from being dry by its continual motion. Inflammation of this membrane is termed pericarditis. [s. 697]
