Franz, a German song writer; born in Saxony, Dee. 22, 1819. He studied theology at Leipsic, but abandoned it for music. He is well known as composer of the favorite song, “ When the Swallows Homeward Fly.” He visited the United States in 1872. He died March 31, 1885.
