Civil War

(Hist.) A war between people of the same state, or citizens of the same community; as distinguished from a foreign war, that is, a war directed against an alien country. In England, the War of the Roses,and the War between Charles I. and the Parliament; in France, the Wars of the Fronde and of La Vendée; in America, the War of Sece ion, are the principal instances of C.
