Enfield Rifle

a muzzle-loading rifle used in the British army as the infantry service-arm prior to the introduction of the breech-loading system. Large numbers of these rifles were converted into breech-loaders. on the Snider principle, and transferred to the volunteers when the Martini- Henry rifle was i ued to the regulars. To these converted weapons the term Snider-Enfield or simply Snider is applied.
