Thackeray

WILLIAM MAKE PEACE, (thak'ur-a,) a distinguished English novelist, B. in Calcutta, 1811, was educated at Cambridge. After devoting some time to artistic pursuits, he embraced the profe ion of literature, and, under the nom de plume of " Michael Angelo Titmarsh," became known as a humoristic writer of the first eminence. He became editor of the " Corn hill Magazine " in 1860, and D. in London in 1863. His best works are: Vanity Fair, Pen dennis, Esmond, and The New comes. [s. 890]
