FRANCKE, KUNO

(1855), a university profe or, b. at Kiel, Germany, s. of August Wilhelm S. (of Danish Supreme Ct.) and Katherine Marie Jensen Francke. He was educated at Gymnasium, Kiel, and at the University of Munich. He became an instructor at Harvard in 1884 and after being a t. profe or in German, also German literature, profe or in History of German Culture and curator of Germanic Museum there, he was made profe or emeritus and honorable curator of that institution in 1917. He was the author of several books relating to German literature and culture including The German Spirit, 1916 and Die Kulturwerte der deutscher Literatur von der Reformation bis zur Aufklarung, 1922. 1603), Flem. artist; employed by Henri III. of France; several other members ae pume family were distinguished artists.
