(gal-van'ik). Voltaic, relating to galvanism, g. batt'ery, a collection of cells or elements in which an electric current is generated by chemical action, g. cau'tery, galvanocautery. g. cell, g. erement, a single unit of a g. battery, consisting usually of two plates of different metals immersed in a liquid (usually an acid) which acts upon one of the plates, or each plate may be immersed in a different liquid, the two being separated by a porous partition, g. cur'rent, galvanism.
