(It. cartoccio.) In Architecture, the same as modillion (which see), except that this term is used almost exclusively to signify the blocks or modillions applied at the eaves of a house. Some have used the term to denote the ornament of the key-stone of an arch, which seems to represent a scroll of paper partly unrolled. [s. 213]
