(1530-92); Span. physician renouned for his writings showing the connection between psychology and physiology. an American writer, 6. in Blooming ton, Til, Leaving his father’s farm at the age of 14, he worked in a printing shop and later in a soap factory, eventually becoming part owner of the latter. Selling out his interest, he established a from which he i ued The Philistine, a monthly publication which had many admirers. He wrote a great deal of ‘succe ’ literature, which found a wide reading among those who made material succe their sole ideal. Among his writings are Little Journeys (biographical sketches); The Me age to Garcia, 1898, and Hollyhocks and Golden glow, 1912.
