A shell covered with a nacreous coating, or with mother-of-pearl. pearl-side, pearl-sides (pėrl's id, -sīdz), n. A fish, the Sheppey argentine, Maurolicus pen nanti, having pearly spots on the sides. Same as fiorite . pearl-sinter (perl's in"tèr), n. pearl-skipper (pėrl's kip"ér), n. A British hesperian butterfly, Pamphila comma. pearl-spar (perl'spär), n. A variety of dolomite: so called because of its pearly luster. pearl-stitch (pèrl's tich), n. Same as pearl, 13. pearl stone (pėrl's ton), n. Same as perlite. pearl-tea (perl'tē), n. Same as gunpowder tea (which see, under gunpowder ). pearl-tie (perl'ti), n. In lace - making, a bride or bar, more especially when decorated with picots.
